Citizens Advice Data Insights Debt Under Pressure

Debt is rising as living costs stay high. Join our 26 Feb Data Insights event to see what the data reveals about pressure on households. In 2025, Citizens Advice supported over 400,000 people with debt, nearly a 45% increase compared with five years ago. Many of the people we support are facing a double squeeze: ongoing high living costs that continue to stretch household budgets, alongside debts built up over recent years. Rather than easing, these pressures are overlapping. With unstable incomes and little financial security, many people find it hard to escape debt. Support often falls short, leaving people stuck in debt that harms their health and wellbeing.
